Jayrone Elliott Named Packers Nominee for Man of the Year

Green Bay Packers linebacker Jayrone Elliott has been named the Packers’ team nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which recognizes a player for his excellence on and off the field and is among the league’s most prestigious awards.

Three of the nominees will be selected as finalists for the award, named for Hall of Fame Chicago Bears running back, Walter Payton. Finalists will be announced in January. 

The winner will be announced in Houston at NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime awards special to air nationally on February 4, the night before Super Bowl LI, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The award winner, two finalists and additional 29 team nominees will receive donations in their name to the charity of their choice.

For the second year, each Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee will also take part in the Charity Challenge, a social media challenge that encourages fans to tweet using a unique hashtag for each player. The player hashtag that generates the most mentions will win an additional $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice.

Packers fans can support Elliot by tweeting with the hashtag #ElliottWPMOYChallenge to help Elliott earn a donation to his chosen charity, the Ginn Foundation.

In his third season in the NFL and with the Green Bay Packers, Elliott was selected as the Packers’ nominee to honor his continual investment of his time and talents outside of football in the community. From dedicating his time to speak to young people at local schools and youth programs in Wisconsin, Arizona and his native Ohio, to taking part in the Packers’ 11th annual, five-day Tailgate Tour to raise money for Wisconsin nonprofits, Elliott has supported a wide variety of causes.

Elliott has taken part in the Children’s Heart Foundation Golf outing in Fond du Lac, participated in the Green Bay Packers Give Back Celebrity Bowling event to benefit the NWTC Student Emergency Fund and has supported the March of Dimes by donating a dinner to help bring awareness and support to the organization. He has also attended the Breast Cancer Awareness high school game, with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society.

In recognition of his many community efforts, Elliott was honored with the 2016 Community Service Award at the Packers Welcome Back Luncheon prior to the beginning of the season.
