Janesville police asking the public for information related to Britney Cross' murder

JANESVILLE -- Authorities in Janesville are asking for the public's help as they investigate the murder of 21-year-old Britney Cross.

Cross' body was found Monday near the Rock River in Janesville.

Police suspect 28-year-old Clayton Courtney, charged Tuesday in a separate attempted homicide case, could be the killer.

Investigators believe Courtney and Cross were dating and spent Sunday evening together driving in a blue pickup truck near Traxler park, the Memorial Drive bridge, and a business on Main Street where her body was found.

Courtney told police he had \"killed three people\" Sunday night after nearly stabbing his friend to death as the friend's pregnant girlfriend and kids slept in another room.

That friend, Michael Clark, told CBS 58 News that he knew Cross because she was in an abusive relationship with Courtney.

Janesville police continue their investigation into Cross' murder and into Courtney's claims that there are more murder victims.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Janesville police at (608) 755-3100.
