Introducing “Tafari,” the Milwaukee County Zoo’s Baby Giraffe

His name is Tafari, “he who inspires awe.”  The Milwaukee County Zoo announced the name of its newest giraffe this morning at a celebration at the outdoor Giraffe Exhibit.

More than 5,000 votes were cast online as the Zoo asked people to choose their favorite of five different names of African origin.

To celebrate Tafari’s naming, visitors to the Giraffe Exhibit can get their own temporary giraffe tattoo.  Kids can see how they measure up to Tafari’s height at birth.  If they are less than 5-feet, 9-inches tall, they will be entered into a drawing for a giant plush giraffe and Zoo Pride volunteers will be on-hand to answer questions during the celebration of Tafari’s name.
