On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in conjunction with the opening of Milwaukee’s Race for the Cure 2017 registration, Susan G. Komen Wisconsin will partner with local tattoo artists to offer the free tattoos.

From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Pettit National Ice Center, members of the public can drop in, choose from a selection of breast cancer awareness-themed designs, and get inked on the spot.

“Breast cancer has affected so many people in our community,” said Nikki Panico, executive director of Komen Wisconsin. “We thought this would be a meaningful way for those people to commemorate a loved one, or celebrate their own personal battle with the disease, while demonstrating their commitment to fighting breast cancer.”

Tattoo artists donating their time and talent to the event include Brock Baumgartner, owner of Rock Star Tattoo Company in West Allis, and Rachelle Krischan from Jedi Tattoo, among others.

Steven and Krischan are both close to the cause-each has experience tattooing over mastectomy scars.

Additionally, the public is invited to show their dedication to the cause by registering and fundraising for this year’s Race for the Cure, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at the Milwaukee Lakefront. New this year, any race participant who raises $60 in donations will be eligible to receive a refund of their race registration fee. Fundraisers who raise even more will be eligible to win additional prizes, including limited edition t-shirts, and entry for the grand prize.

“Each year, we have amazing participation in Milwaukee’s Race for the Cure,” explains Panico. “But what a lot of people don’t realize is that the fundraising component of the Race is what really has an impact on our community. It’s our largest fundraiser of the year, and 75 percent of the money raised stays right here in Wisconsin to fund local projects to help meet the most critical needs of our breast cancer community.”

The Pettit Center is located at 500 South 84th Street in Milwaukee. For more information on the event, call 414-389-4888.

Race for the Cure registration will officially open online on Monday, June 12.

In-person registration will also be offered at the Pettit Center event.
