Indian Trail High School students build beds for children through charity organization

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Indian Trail High School and Academy DECA helped build 16 beds for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the Kenosha Unified School District announced on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an organization that focuses on building beds for children who have never had a bed, officials say.

"This event was very important because there is a serious issue in the Kenosha/Racine area surrounding bedding for children," the Kenosha Unified School District said.

Students got in an assembly line and began sanding, drilling, nailing, staining, and branding beds in order to build these.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace said each bed represents a child they are getting into a proper bed.

"Sometimes it's their first bed," the organization posted on Facebook. "Every build day, every board sanded and stained... Represents something bigger than ourselves. We are SHP and we are a national organization answering a call to a very real and important need."
