Income tax filing deadline on Tuesday

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The income tax filing deadline is Tuesday.

Taxpayers have until Tuesday at midnight to get their tax returns in the mail. If that’s not possible, they can file for an extension.

However, experts say any money owed must be paid by Tuesday. Based on a specific tax situation, some people may qualify for a payment plan.

The president of Milwaukee's Acc-U-Rite Tax Service Inc., Paul Wickert, says it is important to file the tax return correctly, so instead of doing it quickly now, consider an extension.

“If you are able to gather most of your information and you can at least tell if you have a balance or not, just file an extension,” Wickert said.

Wickert reminds taxpayers the new tax law does not impact 2017 returns. More information on tax deadlines and extensions can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s website and the Internal Revenue Service’s website.
