Milwaukee (CBS58) – Whether chocolate-covered or jelly-filled, Milwaukee is full of donut lovers. On Sunday, hundreds of people gathered for the annual Donuts and Coffee Fest at Turner Hall.
Eight donut vendors and five coffee shops featured their unique creations.
"Artisan craft donut spots have opened up now and they have become really popular in larger cities and now they're all in Milwaukee," said Molly Snyder, Donut Eating Competition Host.
While food-eating competitions might not be for everyone, Snyder has some wins under her belt.
"In 2015 and 2016 I won the Baked Potato Eating Contest at the Wisconsin State Fair, then I was invited to do the Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Contest at the Wisconsin State Fair, so I went to that, and I won," said Snyder.
Snyder, now retired from competitive eating, has turned in her fork for a mic.
"I have emceed five to six competitions," said Snyder
The high-speed world of food-eating competitions is not an easy sport, so Snyder suggests going in on an empty stomach.
"You have to eat all of the donuts; they have to all stay down... in the competitive eating world we call it "reversal", but you can't have anything come out of your mouth otherwise you are disqualified," Snyder explains.
This year's donut-eating champion is Teddy Delacruz, eating 20 mini donuts in one minute and 25 seconds!
"I do this because I love the competition, free food, and the prizes," said Delacruz.
