MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Hundreds of volunteers gathered in Milwaukee for a day of service on Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
The event was held by City Year Milwaukee at South Division High School. More than 500 volunteers of all ages helped paint murals with inspirational quotes around the school. U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin also volunteered at the event.
Organizers say it’s important for the community to come together and give back.
“When something is a group project we all feel responsible for it to be amazing, we all feel a sense of pride when it is completed,” City Year Milwaukee executive director Meralis Hood said. “We look back and say we did that together.”
City Year is a national organization that partners with public schools to help students succeed.
