Hundreds of local mothers, families receive free resources during Penfield Children Center's biannual community baby shower

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Saturday morning, hundreds of local moms and families received free baby resources thanks to the Penfield Community Center's biannual community baby shower.

Items included strollers, diapers, milk and more.

For expecting mothers like Anya Gray, the resources mean the world.

"I'm actually doing this alone so it's actually helpful having resources and things like that," Gray said. "It takes a village, so just asking for help is no problem, it's a burden off your shoulder."

The goal of the event? To highlight the growing need for maternal support services.

"Penfield is committed to making sure that you are prepped and able to welcome home baby with educational resources, connecting you with birth services, early intervention services if you need," said Katherine MacDonald, the center's RN supervisor.

Tenia McBride, the community connector for Children's Wisconsin, agreed, saying she looks forward to these kinds of events.

"Being the person that's helping provide these resources means a lot because a lot of people don't have the family base or help from others, so being the first person that's providing those resources along with Penfield, that's just wonderful," McBride said.

If you were unable to make it out to this one, there will be another community baby shower happening this fall in October and signups will open closer to that date.
