OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- People in Ozaukee County donated about 750 backpacks to homeless organizations in honor of one of their own on Monday.
Nicky Schrott worked at the Ozaukee County YMCA. He was killed in a crash in November.
Schrott was well-known for being friendly to all who came to the Y. He was also known for being a sharp dresser.
"Nick always wore fun socks," said donation volunteer Loretta Kryshak. "They call 'em happy socks, so he was known for always dressing nicely, it was very sad when he passed away."
1,500 pairs of "happy socks' were collected at the YMCA and will be included in the backpacks.
The backpacks will be distributed to a number of outreach programs in Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties.
