KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Officers with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized a human brain that was being mailed from Canada to Wisconsin.
According to CBP, the brain was found during an inspection of a Canadian mail truck that just crossed the Blue Water Bridge at the Centralized Examination Station in Marysville. The shipment that included the "Antique Teaching Specimen" was flagged for inspection.
CBP officers found the package to contain a human brain specimen inside a glass Mason jar that originated in Toronto, destined for Kenosha.
“Individuals looking to import shipments such as this, need to remember that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has a strict Import Permit Program that must be adhered to,” said Area Port Director Michael Fox. “This is just another great example of just one of the many things CBP officers do to protect our nation on a daily basis.”
Authorities are currently working to find a way to properly dispose of the specimen.
