HUD gives $1.3 million for housing development near Milwaukee’s west side

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee is getting help to revitalize one of its neighborhoods.

The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $1.3 million to College Court, a public housing development on the city’s near west side.

The money will be invested through a public-private partnership. It will improve the neighborhood by putting in more businesses, green spaces, and community art.

“I can foresee us creating plan that will invest in retail, invest in housing, will invest in strengthening the neighborhood and we’ve been successful in the past because of these partnerships,” said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

Mayor Barrett says this grant could lead to more money for the city in the future. Milwaukee was one of six cities to get grant funding to revitalize neighborhoods.
