MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Around 90,000 people ride the bus across Milwaukee County each day. Now after months of planning, big changes could be on the way for those riders.

"More frequency, more connections, new service on streets we don’t serve today and simplicity," said Jesus Ochoa the planning manager with the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS).

That’s what Jesus Ochoa with MCTS says riders can expect from the newly proposed MOVE 2025 plan.

"There are parts of the plan that look at areas that maybe riders aren’t really riding at a certain time and there are parts of the plan where there is demand, where we are recommending more," said Ochoa.

If the plan is approved, there will be new routes and connections, as well as multiple route changes and extensions.

Ochoa says these changes were shaped by multiple public meetings and hundreds of people providing feedback.

"A lot of connections," said Ochoa. "Riders want routes to connect to other routes to get to places. To get to employment, to school."

CBS 58 spoke with riders who have been relying on the bus for decades and want to see change.

"I want the buses to come more regularly because a lot of times they are late," said Lily Reed, a Milwaukee bus rider.

Some routes will see shorter wait times, while others will see longer. However, riders say as long as the bus is on time, the more stops the better.

"People need to get around," said Antwan Moore, a Milwaukee bus rider. "You know people who are elderly, people who are back and forth to work every day who don’t drive, who have issues with driving, who don’t you know commute back and forth like that. We need some efficiency."

The proposal is up for approval by a county board committee on June 11.If it passes there, it will be voted on by the full county board at the end of June.

If passed by both these new changes will go into effect at the end of August.
