Horse and buggy operator seriously hurt after being rear-ended by SUV in Dodge County

DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A person operating a horse and buggy was seriously hurt after being struck by an SUV in the township of Lowell, Dodge County, on Friday, Sept. 10.  

According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, an investigation shows around 7:10 a.m., the horse and buggy was traveling east on State Highway 16/60, approaching the intersection with County Highway J. Authorities say an SUV traveling east on State Highway 16/60 approached the horse and buggy and the front of the SUV struck the buggy, causing the lone occupant of the buggy to be ejected.

The operator of the horse and buggy sustained severe injuries and was transported by LifeNet helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was transported to Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were: Beaver Dam Paramedics, Reeseville Fire Department, Lowell Fire Department, Clyman Fire Department, Reeseville First Responders, LifeNet helicopter and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team.

State Highway 16/60 was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was being investigated.
