MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Children and families on Milwaukee's south side had the chance to scoop up some free school supplies on Sunday, Aug. 3.
The Libre Initiative, which works to support Wisconsin's Latino community, joined Hispanics for School Choice and Desatar Ministries put on the event.
Students picked up folders, notebook, backpacks -- really anything they needed to help them get through the school year.
"It touches our hearts, and for us to be able to do something small like this that can bring such a big difference in their lives, that's what we're all about," said Pastor Francisca Vergara, Desatar Ministry.
In Wisconsin, School Choice allows public funds to follow a student to a school of their choice whether that is public or private.
Students were able to get supplies regardless of where they attend school.
