MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The annual student boat launching tradition kicked off at Discovery World on Tuesday, May 27.
Students from El Puente High School launched their 12-foot Echo Bay Dory Skiff Tuesday afternoon.
The project was completed as part of the semester-long "Stern-2-Stern" shop class at the All Hands Boatworks shop where the students got hands-on experience crafting boats of all shapes and sizes.
"Boat building is a phenomenal way to teach a variety of skills and concepts, not the least of which is math, science topics, but as well as learning valuable lifelong skills using tools," said Bill Nimke, executive director and founder of All Hands Boatworks.
The boat launches will continue over the next couple days at Discovery World, with over 50 students from local schools participating.
