Homeless Veterans Initiative and VA received Special Delivery

A special delivery occurred Monday morning at the VA in West Allis for some of our nation's finest.

The Milwaukee Mayor and County Executive were also on hand for another special delivery at the Homeless Veterans Initiative.

This is the 9th year the city, county, and their community partners delivered special items from the holiday wish list for both organizations.

This year the city and county collected 15,000 items.

These items range from cleaning supplies and food item

Mayor Tom Barrett took a moment to address veterans at the v-a and thank them for their service.

“Those of you who served in our armed forces, helped this nation, secured the liberties that we all cherish, and we as a nation, we as a people, have an obligation, have a duty, and have the honor of making sure that we never forget everything that you have done for us,”  Mayor Tom Barrett.

Officials at the VA and Veterans Homeless Initiative said the transition to civilian life is not easy.

They told me many of these items will help our local veterans as they move into housing and begin their new life after serving our country.
