MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee launched its second annual Hip-Hop Week MKE on Monday with local mixmaster Doc B spinning some old school sounds.
Alderman Khalif Rainey started Hip Hop Week MKE in 2018 and says Milwaukee is the first city to devote a week to an art form that he says can transform urban communities.
Doc B offered a historic take on hip-hop.
"The forefathers of hip-hop said it was about peace, unity, love and having fun. Now it's broken off into other segments of that since then, but that's what the original purpose was, to stop you from being out here doin' negative and fighting, negativity, and fighting in gangs," The Midwest Mixer, Doc B said.
Hip-Hop Week MKE runs from August 19 - 25 and features a number of activities and entertainment. See the full schedule here.
