High winds lead to widespread power outages

MILWAUKEE -- High winds are to blame for widespread power outages that affected thousands of WE Energies customers.

Scattered outages affected customers in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Walworth, Dodge and Kenosha counties late Thursday into early Friday.

WE Energies crews have restored power to most customers left in the dark, but a spokesperson for the company said more outages are likely Friday due to the fierce winds.

In addition to power outages, the winds are causing difficulty for drivers as blowing snow limits visibility.

Emergency crews have been busy responding to a number of traffic accidents on area highways.
