High school students compete in carpentry challenge at NARI Home Improvement Show

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Students from Muskego High School are competing in a two-day SkillsUSA carpentry challenge at the NARI Home Improvement Show at State Fair Park.

One member of the team explained why he's excited about a career in building trades.

"Everything that we've been taught in school for the last 12 years of our lives is that we need to go to college, we need to get a four-year degree and we need to spend all this money to do that. But the fact is, is that those jobs are gonna be taken and picked over, when there's jobs building houses, plumbing pipes, doing electric," said Matthew Mansfield.

The winning team from the competition moves on to a national contest in Kentucky.
