High school student suspended after saying "bless you"

TENNESSEE (CNN/WMC) -- A high school senior in Tennessee says she was suspended after breaking a class rule after saying \"bless you\" when a classmate sneezed.

High School Senior Kendra Turner feels her teacher was taking issue with her religion. When the teen stood up for herself, she was sent to the administrator's office. Turner was placed on in-school suspension for the rest of that class period.

Rev. Becky Winegardner, Turner's Youth Pastor, says, \"There were several students that were talking about this particular faculty member there that was very demeaning to them in regards to their faith.\"

One student sent News 5 in Memphis a picture of words the student claims are not allowed in the classroom. The words \"bless you\" are visible on that list.

Turner's parents say the school leadership told them the whole incident was a distraction to the classroom. Representatives from the school have not returned calls made by News 5 for comment.
