WAUKESHA (CBS 58)-- The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department (WPRF) announces the 9th Annual Operation Honor will take place on Sat., Nov. 7, 2020. This year’s event will be a drive through style Care Package Drive for Active Military members in cooperation with Operation Homefront and will take place at the Schuetze Recreation Center, 1120 Baxter St. between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Individuals interested in participating are asked to donate from a specific item list and drop off items during the drive.

“We are grateful to the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country,” said Shawn Reilly, Mayor of Waukesha. “This care package drive is one small way we can say thank you to our military for all their sacrifices for us. I encourage all residents to show their support for our troops by participating in the drive and by sharing names and addresses of their deployed friends or family who will then receive a care package.”“Even though we are unable to gather together to honor our Veterans, taking part in the Care Package Drive is another way to show support in a socially distant way,” said Joanna Adamicki, special events coordinator for the City of Waukesha, Parks, Recreation & Forestry Dept. “One can participate in a couple of ways by donating items or even writing cards or letters of support that will be included in the packages.”

Those wishing to donate can drive through the Schuetze Recreation Center parking lot anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to drop off items. Operation Homefront staff along with volunteers will be on hand to accept the items that will be packaged and sent to active military members. For a full list of requested items, please visit the City of Waukesha website at https://waukesha-wi.gov/1528/Operation-Honor. If you know someone deployed oversees, please contact Joanna Adamicki at 262-524-3737 or jadamicki@waukesha- wi.gov with name and address information to have a package sent to them. The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Dept. is National Recreation and Park Association CAPRA Accredited and a Gold Medal agency.
