Heavy Rain Targeting Area Late This Weekend

A prolonged period of rain is possible for this weekend.  There are scattered showers possible this afternoon and evening, but the “meat and the potatoes” in terms of the rainfall hits later this weekend.  A warm front will glide into the area along with energy aloft.  The low level jet (highway for winds and moisture upstairs in the atmosphere) will be pointing into our direction, and this will help steer a plethora of moisture our way.

The timing looks to be late Saturday/early Sunday for a starting point, and lasting through Monday night.  Sunday afternoon and evening will bring the best chance for the heaviest rain to fall.  Rainfall totals could range between 1”-3”.  Local streams and rivers will be on the rise, so heads up for minor flooding.  Biting winds off the lake will make the daytime temps in the 40s feel more like in the 30s.

The upper-level low will track out of the viewing area slowly by later Monday and Tuesday.  With cooler air moving on the western fringes of the storm, a wintry mix could develop in spots around the Badger State.
