MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One woman is dead and another is hurt after being shot on Milwaukee's south side early Thursday, Aug. 26.

According to police, the double shooting happened just after 5:30 a.m., near 14th and Washington. It was the result of an argument.

The victims reportedly drove a few blocks, near 11th and Hayes, and summoned help.

Phyllis Johnson's daughter then heard a woman crying out. She lives near the scene.

"She woke up to hearing this girl scream," Johnson said.

Johnson says her daughter tried to help, but it was too late.

"They give aid to the girl, but there was no reviving her. They couldn't do nothing. She had blood on her hands from it."

Police confirmed the woman died on scene.

"The body was laying in the street covered up," Johnson said.

"We are sort of drowning in this environment that violence is just accepted," Carmen Pitre said. She is the president and CEO of SoJourner Family Peace Center.

She says it really comes down to teens not understanding how to solve problems "the right way".

"Our teens are really desperately needing us to wrap our arms around them and help them learn alternative strategies to solving their conflict."

The other 19-year-old Milwaukee woman, sustained non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to treatment at a local hospital.

Milwaukee police are seeking a known suspect. Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at (414) 935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or P3 Tips App to remain anonymous.
