'He came flying across': SUV crashes into iconic Riverwest car garden
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man has been arrested after crashing his car into the front lawn of an iconic Riverwest home.
According to police, the crash happened just before 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon near Humboldt Blvd. and Center Street.
Milwaukee police said the driver of the vehicle was suspected of driving while intoxicated.
Police said the driver crashed into a curb, a railing, and a stoop. The car would eventually come to a stop in an iconic Riverwest car garden.
"When he plowed in here, he pushed the whole thing into the yard here," said David Jones, homeowner.
Jones' home is known for its unique garden.
"We started planting the Cadillacs and it turned into the Model A's, and the Volkswagen, and more Cadillacs," said Jones.
But on Sunday, a weed sprouted up.
"He came flying across the bushes and the side here, took down one of the handrails and the steps going up two doors down from here, came across the neighbor's yard, and up here in the front yard," said Jones.
Jones was home at the time of the crash, and he captured the aftermath on his cellphone.
"At first I was mad, in fact I yelled to the cops that were here already. I said, 'Did you get him? That's all I care about, did you get him?'" said Jones.
Jones said this crash has left an impact on what has become his life's work.
"I put so much time and effort into the yard, I mean as you can see when you pan through the yard, you can see we put a lot of effort into the front yard, so it hurts, it hurts," said Jones.
According to police, no one was reported injured in this incident.
