Hawley Food Mart co-owner in West Allis has "no idea" why store is so lucky, after two win big in lotto
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Right on Hawley Rd., off of the Hank Aaron State Trail, and just steps away from CBS 58's news station sits one of West Allis' most unsuspecting yet luckiest gems.
On the inside, the Hawley Food Mart looks like your typical store, complete with hundreds of options of food and drink.
But tucked away in the front corner, lay the store's golden tickets.
Literally.
From Powerball to Mega Millions and the dozens of scratch-offs in between, the mart offers your pick of choice.
And it was a $100,000 dollar Powerball ticket sold on Wednesday, Aug. 30 that's spotlighted the store.
Just three weeks prior on Aug. 4, another person won around $30,000 dollars in the Fast Play Progressive Jackpot.
Two big winners in one month are rare, but co-owner Pramod Patel tells CBS 58 he's seen dozens of smaller winners in the decade he's worked there.
"Lottery is popular here," Patel said, noting the three $10,000 dollar winners over the last two years and the countless number of $1,000 dollar winners. “I feel very proud about them like they win, I like it they win.”
When asked why he believes the store is so lucky, Patel said he had "no idea" but added he is grateful for his customers and their continued support.
"It's a lucky store so probably going to sell more lottery now!" Patel said.
