Group protests Hilton Garden Inn

MILWAUKEE—A local hotel is now feeling the backlash after calling for the closure of a neighboring night club.

Back in September the general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn on North Broadway filed a complaint against 618 night club alleging lewd, disruptive and sometimes criminal behavior on the part of some club goers.

The hotel said that such behavior is having an impact on its business.

But, protesters who gathered outside of the Hilton Garden Inn Wednesday suggested that there’s a racial element behind the hotel’s complaint.

“As it stands we feel some of the actions taken by the Hilton Garden is just to rid the downtown area of a certain culture, a certain hip-hop culture, an urban culture,\" said community activist Tory Lowe.

The City of Milwaukee’s licensing committee is scheduled to vote on Friday on whether that club will remain open.
