MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police said they responded to 18 shootings over Memorial Day weekend, leaving three dead and 21 people hurt.

Amid this violence, the group Milwaukee Metro Moms Demand Action said they will be hosting a drive-thru memorial for gun violence victims.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson responded to the violence on Tuesday, saying he remains hopeful this summer's violence won't be as bad as the last.

"My expectation is that, you know, folks do better and that folks hear the warnings that we're putting out there. That folks understand that they will be held accountable. They always do," said Mayor Johnson.

For Jennifer Hoffman-Jonas, co-lead for Milwaukee Metro Moms Demand Action, having just one gun violence victim is too much.

"I'm tired of people looking away and not, you know, not realizing what a problem this is in our country. In any community, there is gun violence," said Hoffman-Jonas.

Moms Demand Action will be hosting a drive-thru memorial displaying about 50 pictures of gun violence victims. The memorial will run from June 3-4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sherman and Locust.

"This memorial is meant to uplift and honor the lives of people who have been killed by gun violence in Milwaukee, and it's in recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness weekend," said Hoffman-Jonas.

The memorial will also follow the Peace Walk organized by Safe and Sound and WAVE. They will be giving out free gun locks.
