Reviews of ’Pluribus’ and ’Jay Kelly’ in Racine Reels
OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- NFL Hall of Famer and former Green Bay Packer Leroy Butler helped some local students gear up for the new school year.
On Sat. Aug. 9, St. John's Lutheran Church in Oak Creek hosted the "load up for learning" event, including community resources, fun activities, and free school supplies for the kids.
Butler tells us he never had school supplies growing up, and there was one special moment involving a police officer that he says changed his life.
"My first backpack that I had that was mine that wasn't a hand me down backpack, was from one of our police officers," said Butler. "We used to call her Officer Friendly - Officer Brown. I used to walk by the book mobile, and I could never afford the books and he said, 'come here little man' and I said 'yessir' and he gave me a backpack with books in it, pencils, paper and everything and it really changed my life."
Butler also gave an anti-bullying presentation, and all the kids received a Hall of Fame football card.
