Green Bay man arrested for 16th OWI after hitting power pole

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Green Bay man is accused of his 16th drunk driving offense.

Police say 74-year-old Wallace Bowers crashed a vehicle into a utility pole early Friday, Jan. 8, causing local residents to lose power.

Bowers was arrested for his 16th Operating While Intoxicated offense. He was booked into the Brown County Jail.

“I am frankly shocked that someone with fifteen prior OWI arrests is still driving,” said Police Chief Andrew Smith. “Drunk driving is an avoidable tragedy, one that kills too many innocent lives every year."
