MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Put on your lederhosen and raise a stein for the 43rd annual German Fest.
It’s three days of culture, food, dancing, education and more. This year the theme is Karneval. Many people know Germany for its beer gardens and Bavarian traditions, but Karneval, often known as Mardi Gras in the U.S., originated in Germany and still widely celebrated.
Some old Milwaukee German Fest traditions are also returning this year: Spanferkel and chicken will be slow cooked on spits, and red & white wine Kuhlers are being served by Lakefront Brewery.
You’ll also find the old favorites like pretzels, timber sports, a Dachshund race and the Glockenspiel.
