Governor asks for holiday ornaments dedicated to troops

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Family members of Wisconsin troops are invited to send a holiday ornament dedicated to their loved one for this year’s “Tribute to our Troops” holiday tree at the Governor's executive residence.

“We are pleased to continue this holiday tradition at the executive residence,” Gov. Walker said. “It’s important for us all to remember that many families across Wisconsin will go through the holiday season with a family member away from home because of their military service. I have had the pleasure of talking with many of these families at send-off ceremonies and homecoming celebrations, and I’ve also had the opportunity to meet some of our outstanding service members from Wisconsin serving overseas. Their love of country and their sacrifice is truly amazing, and it is fitting that we commemorate that with the Tribute to our Troops tree.”

The ornaments will be displayed on one of the large evergreen trees in the executive residence during December's holiday season. The ornaments can be plain or fancy, as well as personalized to honor our fallen service members, those who are deployed overseas this holiday season, and all who wear the uniforms of our nation’s armed forces.

To be included as part of this year's "Tribute to our Troops" tree, ornaments must be received no later than November 9. They will not be returned.

The tree will be decorated on Thursday, November 15. The tree can be seen during public tours held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. December 1, 10 a.m. to noon December 8, and noon to 2 p.m. December 12, 13, 19, and 20.

Ornaments should be sent to:
