MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Could there be a compromise in Madison on a new GOP bill to cut taxes?
Govenor Evers is weighing in after republicans introduced nearly a $3 billion tax cut proposal.
During a public hearing about the bill today on Wednesday, Aug. 30, republican representative John Macco read a statement from the governor when he was asked about the tax plan introduced yesterday.
Ever's told an Eau Claire TV station that the bill is a "fair compromise" and added he wished republicans would have presented him the proposal earlier.
The governor's staff later clarified his comments.
They said that Evers' was only talking about the portion of the bill that includes a tax cut on retirement income. Evers supports that aspect, but still has concerns about the plan.
He cited a memo that concludes the state can only sustain tax cuts of about $430 million dollars over the next few years.
