Gordon named Heisman Trophy finalist

Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon has been named one of three finalists for the Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious award in college football.

Gordon will join Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper in New York Saturday night for the presentation of the 80th Heisman Trophy. The award is voted on by former winners and media members.

Gordon's 2,336 yards and 29 touchdowns lead major college football. He has broken the Big Ten record for rushing yards in a season and the FBS record for rushing yards in a single game (a record broken the following week by Oklahoma's Samaje Perine).

Gordon joins Alan Ameche (1954), Ron Dayne (1999) and Montee Ball (2011) as Heisman finalists. Ameche and Dayne went on to win the award.
