It took two overtimes, but Marquette's Golden Eagles emerged with a much-needed quality win Wednesday night, beating 20th-ranked Providence 96-91.
Henry Ellenson scored 26 points and added 16 rebounds, and the Golden Eagles survived a 42 point performance from Ben Bentil. Haanif Cheatham added 21 for MU, who snapped a mini-losing streak and improved their Big East mark to 5-7 with the win.
Traci Carter scored with fewer than 30 seconds to play in regulation to tie the game and, ultimately, send the contest to overtime. The Friars hit five free throws in the final :32 of the first overtime period, but Marquette survived in the second overtime thanks to key shots from Ellenson and JaJuan Johnson.
