MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With the storms cooling things down, a group of women got together at Juneau Beer Garden Tuesday night to train for a marathon this fall.
Girls on the Run Southeastern Wisconsin launched its group run for November's inaugural Every Woman's Marathon in Savannah, Georgia.
Girls on the Run is an empowerment group for girls between 3rd and 8th grade, and they're spreading their message to 18 women gearing up to run the marathon.
The event's goal is to promote women's strength, resilience and determination.
"Providing them a space like we do with our Solemates group, and part of the Every Woman's Marathon group is again, we're teaching these women what we teach our young girls is hey, you gotta support each other to get through something that's really hard like this," said Tina Jones, executive director of Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run is a charity partner of the Every Woman's Marathon. Proceeds from the race will help support the local nonprofit.
