MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friday, March 21 marks World Down Syndrome Day.
For one hometown group, they're marking the occasion by celebrating a milestone.
Founded in 2015, this year marks the 10th anniversary for Gigi's Playhouse Milwaukee, which supports people and families with down syndrome.
To celebrate a decade of work, families and supporters gathered at Sprecher Brewery on Friday.
The fact that their anniversary falls on March 21 is no coincidence.
"World Down Syndrome Day is March 21st, it is that way because down syndrome represents three copies of the 21st chromosome, which is exactly why we picked it for our very first opening day back in 2015," said Sara Van Dburzen, operations director with Gigi's Playhouse Milwaukee.
The group provides free educational, therapeutic and career development programs for people with down syndrome.
Gigi's Playhouse Milwaukee is part of a national network and helps around 150 Milwaukee families every year.
