MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Skylight Music Theatre will receive financial support from a benefit concert by actor Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band, scheduled to take place at the Aurora Pavilion on Milwaukee’s Summerfest grounds. It will be the group’s first performance in the city.

The Lt. Dan Band, founded in 2003 and named for Sinise’s role in the film "Forrest Gump," has performed nearly 600 shows worldwide. Now part of the Gary Sinise Foundation, the group supports veterans, first responders and their families through music and outreach. Sinise’s work in veteran advocacy spans decades, including theater-based programming.

Proceeds from the event will help sustain Skylight Music Theatre amid ongoing financial pressures affecting arts institutions since the pandemic.

In a press release announcing the concert, Sinise mentioned the importance of arts in the veteran community. "Theater has the potential to connect, heal and illuminate as we watch and experience performances that can reflect our own lives. I saw that happen firsthand as the veterans watched a play that was written by and about them."

He added, "With each performance of each play, something can touch and inspire us. That’s why we began offering free veteran nights, a tradition my Foundation proudly continues at theaters across the country, including Skylight Music Theatre."

Tickets range from $40 to $150. VIP tickets include priority seating, catered food, a signed event poster and more. Food trucks will be on site.

The concert will be held Monday, July 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by clicking here or by calling (414) 291-7800.
