Free Tax Preparation Service Available for Qualified Milwaukee County Residents

The tax season is officially upon us and Milwaukee County residents can take advantage of a free tax preparation service provided by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.   The program, coordinated by the Social Development Commission, provides low and middle income residents with household incomes of $56,000 or less with tax preparation services at no charge.  The free tax preparation is available now through April 18 at two site Monday through Saturday and two other sites that will be open on different days of the week across Milwaukee County.

The Monday through Saturday sites:

SDC-Richards

4041 N Richards Street

Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, 9 a.m. to Noon

The office will be closed on March 25 and 26

SDC-Teutonia

6848 N Teutonia Avenue

Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, 9 a.m. to Noon

The office will be closed on March 25 and 26

Additional sites:

MATC Downtown, Room S115

700 W. State Street

Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (20 taxpayers only)

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (30 taxpayers only)

The office will be closed on March 26, 29 and April 2

Sixteenth Street Community Health Center

1032 S. Cesar Chavez Drive

Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Start date is January 21

The office will be closed on February 4, March 3 and April 7

The qualifications for Milwaukee County residents, information on what to bring and the schedule for services are available online at http://www.cr-sdc.org/index/Programs--Services/VITA.htm.  Information is available in both English and Spanish.  Qualified residents can also use the online Facilitated Self Assistance service to file their tax returns electronically for free.
