Former Cedarburg bar owner sentenced to 3 years in prison for drugging woman's drink

CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Cedarburg restaurant owner is behind bars tonight.

Jacob Banas, who owned the now-closed August Weber Haus, was sentenced Friday for drugging a woman's drink in 2014.

The victim waited six years to get to this point, and she gave a powerful 30-minute statement in front of a packed courtroom.

The crime happened in 2014, but it took police years of investigating to finally bring the case to trial.

During that trial, seven women testified that they believed Banas also drugged them.

The victim told the judge not only did she suffer the actual crime, but for years after, Banas harassed and stalked her in person and online, even attempting to sue her.

Banas was ultimately sentenced to three years in prison and five years probation. He was immediately taken into custody.

The lawsuit Banas filed was dismissed, but cost the victim $200,000 in legal fees. There will be a hearing in May to determine what he has to pay in restitution.
