Former assistant track coach at Greenfield HS charged with sexual assault of student

GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A former assistant track coach at Greenfield High School has been arrested and charged with child enticement and sexual assault of a student.
Twenty-three-year-old Bennet Schmitz was working with the track team in 2023 when, according to a criminal complaint, a 16-year-old student claims she received inappropriate phone calls and text messages from him.
She claims he had sexual contact with her at his apartment and threatened to kill himself if she stopped talking to him.
The school district says the teenager recently shared her story with a staff member who reported it and the high school called Greenfield police.
Bennet Schmitz has since moved to Schofield, Wisconsin. He was arrested there on Monday, Oct. 20.
He's scheduled for his first court appearance next Tuesday, Oct. 28.
