MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Workers at Taqueria Arandas food truck near 13th and Cleveland are grieving after one of their coworkers, Mateo Cardenas, 35, was killed Tuesday night on his way home.
"Two guys tried to rob him right there. He wanted to cross the street running. I think he got scared and didn't see the car coming," said Miguel Leon, food truck manager.
The driver stayed on scene and Cardenas was pronounced dead just a day before his birthday.
"He was a really great worker and a friend. We're raising funds here at the taco truck. We put a box out front for whoever would like to come and donate," Leon said.
According to the Gofundme account for Cardenas, his family says he leaves behind a wife and two kids.
Within the last week, there have been a string of food truck robberies but Milwaukee Police have not confirmed if this incident is connected.
