Fond du Lac Police investigating complaint of suspicious substance found in Halloween candy

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Fond du Lac Police Department received a complaint of a suspicious substance located inside a package of candy on Thursday at 11:48 p.m.

The 25-year-old Fond du Lac woman was going through some Halloween candy with her children when she found the substance inside of a package of Mike and Ike candy.

The substance was in two pieces and resembled pieces of a pill with the outside having a hard, orange coating and the inside being white in color.

The substance was inside the package along with the Mike and Ike candy. The packaging had a hole in it.

At this time, it is unknown as to what the substance is but no one was injured and it is unknown whether or not it's harmful.

The Halloween candy was received by the woman and her children during the regular Trick or Treat hours in Fond du Lac on Sunday, October 29. It is unknown exactly where in Fond du Lac the candy came from.

The investigation into the suspicious substance is ongoing.

Police would like to remind parents to monitor candy received from unknown people and inspect it prior to allowing children to consume it.
