Fond du Lac County sheriff squad struck by driver traveling 'too fast for conditions'

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office squad was struck by a driver traveling too fast for the wintry conditions Wednesday morning, Nov. 6.

It happened around 5:15 a.m., on I-41 southbound.

Fond du Lac sheriff's officials say the deputy was assisting a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper with a crash near Johnson Street, when a driver lost control and crashed into the squad.

According to the sheriff's office, there was "plenty of visibility for drivers to see the emergency lights, plenty of room on the interstate to safely pass the scene, and plenty of time to slow down."

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Officials shared photos of previous incidents to serve as a reminder to slow down when passing emergency responders and "drive past them like they're you're loved ones."
