WAUKESHA CO. (CBS 58) --The sounds of water pumps could be heard near Highway 83 near North Lake Monday night and all day Tuesday as Waukesha County Department of Public Works crews worked tirelessly to clear water from the road.
Jack Nissen, who has worked at the Waukesha County Department of Public Works for 30 years, says they have never had to close this stretch of road.
"The ground is frozen,” Nissen said. “Water is not able to get where it would normally go and soak in. Culverts may have been frozen with that real cold snap we had."
Nearby resident Brandon Censky says he had no idea flooding in the area was that bad.
"I saw the trucks pull up last night,” Censky said. “I looked out around 11 o' clock at night and there were lights out there. They were doing something and I didn't know it was flooding."
Drivers had to be diverted all day Tuesday.
