Fisherman Finds Body in Wisconsin River Near Where Man went Missing

(CHANNEL 3000) Officials found a body in the Wisconsin River just downstream from where a missing Madison man was last seen, according to a release.

The Juneau County Sheriff's Office said the body was found by a fisherman on the river at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Juneau County officials received a report in the early morning hours Sunday about a missing 23-year-old, Shaquille Curtis. Curtis was last seen on the Wisconsin River with a group of people on the beach when he went missing. One witness told the sheriff's office that Curtis had gone underwater while swimming in the current of the river, but others had thought he made it to the opposite shore.

Multiple area authorities conducted a land and water search, the sheriff's office said.

The body was taken to a medical facility where an autopsy will be conducted, officials said.

Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and asked anyone with information to call 608-847-5649.
