Local leaders gathered to commemorate Workers Memorial Day
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- Instead of homework, a group of Milwaukee Public Schools students are bringing home a Thanksgiving feast to fill their dinner tables this holiday.
Mrs. Moeller's 1st graders at Maple Tree Elementary School took home boxes filled with food for the holiday. The donation was made possible by the Milwaukee Police Association (MPA).
The MPA sponsors a classroom each year to bring some holiday cheer to families. "It makes me feel great, and it makes our association and the officers we represent feel great," said Andrew Wagner, MPA president.
The kids were excited to receive their boxes, each filled with everything their families will need for a special holiday dinner.
"This is the officers donating their money and their support to the community and really giving back," said Wagner.
The giving doesn't stop here. The MPA will be back to Mrs. Moeller's class next month.
"We told the kids that we let Santa go for a speeding ticket so he could give them some extra toys, and they'll all get a Christmas present from Santa this year," Wagner said.
