First Class of MPD Community Service Officers Graduate

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Police Department has its first class of Community Service Officers.

The 14 member class, six women and eight men, graduated tonight. They will help MPD out with low-priority calls including theft, non-injury traffic accidents, and vandalism. They will also be responsible for writing police reports.

"What they're doing is letting at least 14 officers do other duties and go off to those types of events that are more serious where you need a police officer," said Alderman Terry Witkowski.

The Community Service Officers went through a 13-week training program. They'll be assigned to district stations and report for work on Monday.
