Fire Damages North Side Home

An early morning fire forced a Milwaukee family of three out of their home early Monday morning.

The Milwaukee and North Shore Fire Departments were called to the house fire near N 14th and W Congress Streets around 4:15 a.m.  According to a Milwaukee Fire Department official, the fire was quickly extinguished with a pump-can and hand-line. Damage is estimated to be $15,000 to the house and $1,000 in contents.

The family, two adults and a child, were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and were able to escape unharmed.  Authorities say the fire was electrical in nature and appears to have started in a wall of the two-story, wood frame house.
