Fire at apartment near 17th and Center in Racine believed to be arson

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Fire Department is investigating an apartment fire that they believe was intentionally set near 17th and Center on Tuesday, Oct. 6. 

Official say just after 4 a.m., firefighters were called to the area and found the two-story, two-family home on fire with the fire extending into the attic.

According to the Racine Fire Department, 12 residents between the two apartments self-evacuated with no injuries.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one of the apartments and attic space, and had the fire extinguished about 45 minutes after arrival.

Authorities are investigating the fire as arson.

The estimated loss is worth $75,000.
